About Ross Deal



Ross Deal graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1975, after which he served three years on active duty in the U.S. Marines. He was promoted (meritoriously) two times, achieving the rank of sergeant. Upon being honorably discharged, Ross returned home to Mishawaka where he served for ten years as a city police officer, attaining the rank of captain. During that time, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Indiana University South Bend. In 1991, Ross left the police department to start his own insurance agency.


Ross has a passion for service to the community. He served for eight years on the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Library Board of Trustees and was president of that body when the district was expanded into Granger. Ross served for six years as a member of the Mishawaka Education Foundation board, served on the Mishawaka Common Council from 2008 to 2011, and four years on the Mishawaka Plan Commission. He was also on the Mishawaka Redevelopment Commission for one year (2015) before reclaiming his seat as Third District Councilman. He held that seat until 2018 when he was selected to fill the vacancy for State Representative in Indiana House District 7. He held the office until 2020.


Ross served for two years on the Michiana Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and he has been a board member and coach for catholic league youth soccer as well as a little league coach. Ross is a former Mishawaka Lions Club Member. Ross currently volunteers at the Northern Indiana Food Bank and and the South Bend Tenants’ Association. Ross is married to Bonnie, and he is the father of four adult children and grandfather of five grandchildren.
